Sustainable Recovery

Substance use disorders (SUDs) have become a major issue in communities across the United States. Programs developed within these communities usually focus on prevention and treatment. However, often forgotten is the stress adults with SUDs endure as they attempt to prevent relapse. It is my belief that if a person is able to find their strengths and build upon them, then they can decrease the chances that the stresses of life will lead to relapse.
These strengths can be both internal and external personal resources. It is when stress exceeds the level of resources available that the person’s wellbeing is threatened. Chances are that your SUD is a symptom of you trying to run away (like with incidences of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) or is a method of trying to find happiness. I do not claim to be a addiction therapist, and will most likely provide you with the resources to find help during the initial stages of recovery. My purpose is to help you find the strength within yourself to sustain recovery.
Recovery, as a process, occurs in stages and include precontemplation, contemplation, determination, action, maintenance, and termination. With each stage of recovery comes different levels of stress that requires personal strengths to endure. I believe determining your current level of strength as soon as possible is important so a plan can be developed to help you through the process of sustainable recovery.
